Using a Strengths-based Approach With Our Students

It is no secret that by making strengths stronger, children in school can have improved opportunities for meaningful engagement and participation.

Working to improve weaknesses and overcome challenges is always an area of focus, but should not be the only one in school-based therapy.

By finding ways for students to engage using their strengths, the path to overcoming challenges is improved.

Let’s make sure we work from a strengths-based therapy approach, not a deficit-based one. The strengths of our students help us to create meaningfully relevant opportunities for engagement in daily activities across the school day. These activities fuel targeted intervention approaches that support student growth.
